Body recovered from Lake Erie in Ohio, investigation underway

OHIO — Authorities recovered a body from Lake Erie early Wednesday afternoon after a 911 caller reported seeing something suspicious in the water.

Officers responded around 1 p.m. to the area of Lake Road and North Point Drive, where the body was pulled from the lake. Officials said they were unable to immediately confirm whether the person was male or female.

The recovery comes as concerns over water safety remain high. The National Weather Service issued a warning Tuesday advising swimmers to stay out of Lake Erie due to dangerous rip currents expected from Wednesday evening through Thursday evening.

Multiple incidents on the lake have been reported in recent days. On Tuesday, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 64-year-old man who was found dead near Edgewater Beach. Meanwhile, search efforts continued Wednesday for two brothers who were swept away by rip currents Sunday evening.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the latest recovery is connected to any of the recent missing person cases. The investigation remains ongoing.
