Two people arrested following high speed chase in stolen vehicle in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were taken into custody Wednesday after a high-speed chase in a stolen Dodge Charger that started in Monroe and ended in Matthews, according to police.

Monroe Police said the incident began around 10:15 a.m. when an officer attempted to stop a Charger with a fake license plate. Instead of stopping, the driver — identified as 23-year-old Ka’Nautica Todd of Charlotte — sped off, leading officers on a chase through multiple jurisdictions.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office and Matthews Police joined the pursuit. During the chase, Todd allegedly crashed into another vehicle but kept driving. Matthews Police eventually stopped the car and arrested both occupants.

Todd was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony hit-and-run, and driving while license revoked. Her passenger, 20-year-old Asiah Clyde, was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant.

Monroe Police Chief Rhett Bolen praised the coordinated effort, saying the teamwork between agencies helped bring “a dangerous situation to a safe resolution.”

The investigation is ongoing.
