OHIO — A Newark man was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on State Route 661, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:56 p.m. just north of Granville. Troopers reported that a northbound Honda Civic driven by William Coss, 46, of Newark, went off the right side of the road before crossing the center line. The vehicle collided with a southbound Jeep Wrangler driven by Maryann Harvey, 55, also of Newark.
Harvey attempted to avoid the Civic but struck the rear of the vehicle, causing the Honda to overturn after leaving the west side of the road. Both Coss and his passenger, Ashley Schorr, 37, of Newark, were ejected. Harvey’s Jeep went off the east side of the road and hit a mailbox.
Coss sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken by the Licking County Coroner’s Office. Schorr suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Grant Medical Center. Harvey was treated on scene by Burlington Township EMS and released with minor injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Licking County Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Township Fire Department, Johnstown Fire and EMS, and the Licking County Coroner.
The crash remains under investigation.
