OHIO — The Farmers’ Almanac has released its 209th edition, forecasting a “chill, snow, repeat” pattern for the 2025-26 winter season across Ohio and much of the Midwest.
According to the outlook, the Ohio Valley — including Greater Cincinnati — is “set for a classic winter wonderland,” with very cold and snowy conditions expected.
The Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and Midwest states, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, are all projected to see an abundance of snow and below-average temperatures.
Snow is expected to continue into Kentucky and Ohio as winter progresses, with March beginning snowy for much of the region and ending with brisk, windy conditions and lingering snow in the north.
Before winter arrives, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts a cooler-than-average fall for the Ohio Valley, with September and October bringing below-normal temperatures and drier conditions.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac, a separate publication, offers a similar short-term outlook, calling for shifting temperatures and periods of showers throughout August and September.
Meteorological winter begins Dec. 1, with astronomical winter starting Dec. 21. The season will officially end with the spring equinox on March 20, 2026, though meteorological spring begins March 1.
The Farmers’ Almanac says its long-range forecasts are calculated two years in advance, factoring in sunspot activity, lunar tidal action, planetary positions, and other variables.
