Thousands without power in South Carolina due to weather

SOUTH CAROLINA — More than 4,600 customers are without power across the Upstate region, with the majority of outages reported in Duncan, according to Duke Energy.

Heavy rain that began Sunday has brought approximately an inch and a half of precipitation to the area, with forecasters predicting up to two more inches by Wednesday evening.

Officials say flooding remains the primary concern, and residents are urged to avoid shallow, flood-prone areas.

As of Monday afternoon, 4,663 customers in the Upstate are experiencing power outages, with 3,136 of those in Duncan alone. Crews have responded by blocking a section around Fairmont Avenue to address outage impacts.

Utility workers are currently at the intersection of East Main Street and Fairmont Avenue, working to repair traffic signals affected by the outages.

Officials are monitoring conditions as crews continue restoration efforts.
