VIRGINIA — Nearly 12,000 homes and businesses across Central Virginia lost power Friday evening as another round of severe thunderstorms swept through the region, bringing high winds and heavy rain.
The storm, which hit on July 18, is the latest in a series of severe weather events that have impacted the area in recent weeks, many of which have caused flash flooding and downed trees.
Friday’s storms brought further damage to powerlines and infrastructure.
According to Dominion Energy, as of 10 p.m. Friday, approximately 11,878 customers were without electricity. The hardest-hit areas include:
- Henrico County: 7,609 outages
- Chesterfield County: 3,036 outages
- Dinwiddie County: 264 outages
- Sussex County: 566 outages
- Petersburg: 183 outages
- Richmond: 103 outages
- Cumberland County: 117 outages
Dominion Energy crews are working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. Residents can check the status of outages and estimated restoration times by visiting the Dominion Energy Outage Map.
Officials continue to urge caution as cleanup and repair efforts continue throughout the region.
