Wendy’s to close 140 stores, future of Ohio locations unknown

OHIO — Fast-food chain Wendy’s will close 140 underperforming restaurants by the end of this year, according to a report by Restaurant Dive.

The Ohio-based company stated the closures will affect locations with average unit volumes around $1.1 million.

Wendy’s CEO and President, Kirk Tanner, said the move aims to “strengthen the overall health of Wendy’s system.”

Despite the closures, Tanner emphasized that growth is on the horizon.

“By the end of 2024, we will have opened more than 500 new restaurants over the last two years and have the confidence to deliver elevated growth in 2025 and years to come,” Tanner stated.

As of October 2024, there are 406 Wendy’s locations in Ohio.
