TENNESSEE — A 10-year-old boy died Sunday night after a collision between his minibike and a tanker truck in East Nashville, according to Metro police.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. near South 5th Street and Main Street.
Police say the tanker truck had just passed a market at 500 Main Street when the boy, identified as Dsiyahn Whitmore, drove his gas-powered minibike onto Main Street and struck the rear passenger side of the truck.
Dsiyahn was run over by the rear wheels of the trailer and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video footage from the incident reportedly showed the child accelerating the minibike onto Main Street directly in the path of the tanker.
Investigators believe the crash was caused by Dsiyahn’s failure to yield. Authorities are working to identify the minibike’s owner and determine why the boy was operating the vehicle.
No charges are expected against the truck driver.
No further details have been released.
