One person dead following vehicle crash on Virginia interstate

VIRGINIA — A 74-year-old man died early Sunday morning after his vehicle crashed into a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) sign along Interstate 64.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at 5:20 a.m. on July 6.

A 2008 Dodge sedan was traveling eastbound on I-64 near the 200-mile marker when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, continued through the grass, and hit a VDOT sign on the driver’s side.

The vehicle then spun and came to rest in the ditch.

Henrico County Fire crews responded to the scene and pronounced the driver, identified as John Albert Price of Highland Springs, dead at 5:31 a.m. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
