Shooting at Ohio halloween party leaves one dead

CLEVELAND — A Halloween party turned deadly early Sunday morning when one man was fatally shot and another critically injured in an assault, according to local police.

Officers responded to reports of violence at a gathering on Canton Road at approximately 12:15 a.m., where they discovered two adult men with serious injuries.

Police reported that one of the men suffered a gunshot wound, while the other sustained injuries consistent with an assault.

The shooting victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Authorities identified him as 39-year-old Brian Cofer of Akron.

The assault victim remains hospitalized in critical condition as of Sunday morning.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation at the scene.

The Springfield Township Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Sergeant Troyer at 330-734-4106.

This incident occurred less than 10 miles from another Halloween party shooting in Akron just hours earlier, where an 18-year-old woman was killed and two other teens were injured on Paris Avenue.
