SOUTH CAROLINA — Several individuals have been arrested in connection with illegal drug distribution in Charleston’s Eastside, the Charleston Police Department announced.

The arrests follow an investigation that began in March 2025 after community members raised concerns about drug activity in Mall Park and Hampstead Square.

Among those charged are:

  • Laron Eva Horlback, 46, of Charleston, charged with three counts of distribution of cocaine base and three counts of distribution near a school.
  • Timothy Robert Harrison, 38, of Goose Creek, charged with distribution of cocaine base.
  • Travis Jerome Simmons, 49, of North Charleston, charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine base and distribution near a school.
  • Anthony Lamont Simmons, 31, of North Charleston, charged with two counts of distribution of cocaine base.
  • Melvin Clearance Horlback, 46, of Hanahan, charged with distribution of cocaine base and distribution near a school.

Police say one suspect remains at large. A warrant is active for Chevelle Antoine Hamilton, 45, of North Charleston, on charges of distribution of cocaine base.

Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker emphasized the department’s commitment to keeping community spaces safe.

“Our communities deserve parks and playgrounds that are free from the influence of illegal activity: places where families can gather without concern,” he said. “These community-driven operations will continue to protect the quality of life in every Charleston neighborhood.”
