Man sentenced to life for 2022 murder in Ohio

COLUMBUS — A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to serve at least 39 years in prison after pleading guilty to the fatal shooting of Brandon Joiner on State Route 104 in May 2022.

Brad Madison, the convicted man, admitted to aggravated murder and a weapons charge in connection to Joiner’s death, as confirmed by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident occurred when Madison shot Joiner, 33, multiple times while both men were driving separate vehicles west of Haul Road.

Following the shooting, Joiner’s vehicle crashed into a median barrier, and police found him nearby. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward, at 2:53 a.m.

Columbus SWAT officers arrested Madison nine days after the incident, and he was subsequently indicted.

On October 7, a Franklin County jury found him guilty on all counts, including two firearm specifications.

Judge Dan Hawkins sentenced Madison to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 39 years.

As part of the sentence, Madison will also be registered as a violent offender.
