LOUISIANA — A major drug bust by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office has taken nearly three pounds of fentanyl and over nine pounds of methamphetamine off the streets, leading to the arrest of a Lafayette man.
Deputies say 30-year-old Jaelon Broussard was taken into custody and faces a series of drug-related charges, including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
He is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, conducting transactions involving drug proceeds, and possessing a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Broussard is currently being held at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center without bond.
Authorities seized 2.9 pounds of fentanyl during the operation, which amounts to 1,315,420 milligrams.
According to the DEA, just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal, meaning the amount seized could potentially kill more than 657,000 people—over twice the population of Lafayette Parish. The fentanyl’s estimated street value exceeds $250,000.
The bust also uncovered 9.1 pounds of methamphetamine and two ounces of marijuana during the execution of search warrants on Rue Ferdinand and Feu Follet Road.
The investigation remains ongoing.
