Ohio police officer injured in crash Sunday morning

OHIO — A Columbus police officer was injured early Sunday morning after a car crashed into a disabled vehicle that the officer was preparing to push out of the way.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Blendon Woods Boulevard in northeast Columbus, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Officers were clearing a crash scene when one officer, who was sitting in a cruiser behind a disabled Honda Accord, was preparing to push the car from the intersection.

Another officer was inside the Honda.

Both vehicles were in the left turn lane of northbound Cleveland Avenue when a southbound Mercury Montego collided with the front of the Honda.

The officer inside the Honda was transported to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The driver and front-seat passenger of the Mercury were also taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where they are listed in stable condition, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
