$1 million lottery ticket winner sold in Ohio

OHIO — April 1 turned out to be no prank for Scott, a Cincinnati resident and Ohio Lottery enthusiast, who won a $1 million top prize on the VIP Millions scratch-off ticket.

Scott purchased the winning ticket at UDF #162, located at 5000 Princeton Road in Liberty Township.

Initially, he misunderstood his winnings, thinking he had won just $4,000. “I only scratched the barcode and scanned the ticket. I thought it said $4,000. I even flipped it over because there isn’t a $4,000 prize,” he said.

After taking a closer look—with the help of his reading glasses—Scott realized he had actually won the game’s annuitized top prize of $40,000 a year for 25 years.

He ultimately chose the cash option, receiving a lump sum of $500,000. After taxes, his total payout amounts to $360,000.

Scott said the win nearly gave him a heart attack and added that he hasn’t decided yet how he’ll spend his winnings.

VIP Millions is a $50 scratch-off game. As of April 17, 2025, 21 top prizes remain. The Ohio Lottery has contributed over $33 billion to education since 1974. For more information, visit www.ohiolottery.com/supportingeducation.
