EAST AKRON — A group of bail bondsmen attempting to serve a warrant on a residence in East Akron was met with gunfire Thursday evening, leaving one member of the group wounded, according to police.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. on the 1100 block of Seventh Avenue.

Authorities say an unknown suspect fired at the bondsmen as they approached the residence, striking a 37-year-old man at least once. The victim was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital in serious condition.

Several individuals inside the home were detained for questioning, including two males, aged 16 and 18, who had outstanding warrants.

The teens were taken into custody on those warrants, but no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.

Police are still working to identify the shooter. No other injuries were reported.
