OHIO — A manhunt for a wanted parole violator in Lorain County has ended, but the suspect remains on the run.
James Douglas Meadows, 37, is wanted for a parole violation and for allegedly assaulting two Sheffield Village Police officers during a traffic stop on March 22.
The search for Meadows intensified Thursday morning after U.S. Marshals received a tip around 8 a.m. that he had been spotted at a gas station.
When authorities attempted to take him into custody, Meadows allegedly tried to run them down with his car before escaping.
Law enforcement officers, including deputies, U.S. Marshals, and local police, searched for about six hours before calling off the manhunt around 2 p.m.
Lorain County Sheriff Jack Hall said the search will resume if credible tips about Meadows’ location are received.
Authorities urge residents to call 911 immediately if they see Meadows.
Meadows is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
He was last seen wearing a tan or brown shirt with a gray beanie hat.
The U.S. Marshals, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and police from Elyria, Lorain, and Oberlin assisted in the search. Residents were advised to shelter in place during the manhunt.
