OHIO — A 30-year-old woman died Sunday morning while being held at the Lorain County Jail, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Melissa Boylan was booked into the jail shortly after midnight Saturday on a bench warrant and a fleeing and eluding charge. At approximately 7 a.m. Sunday, a corrections officer found her unresponsive in her housing pod.

Investigators are interviewing both corrections officers and inmates as part of the investigation.

Authorities are also reviewing Boylan’s medical records and surveillance video from the time she was housed at the facility.

According to the sheriff’s office, Boylan was on a detox protocol for opiates at the time of her death. Scharschmidt said she was not on suicide watch, no drugs were found inside her cell, and she showed no signs of injury.

An autopsy was completed Monday, but officials have not yet released Boylan’s cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
