Severe thunderstorms possible across parts of Indiana Saturday

INDIANA — Parts of Indiana could see strong to severe thunderstorms Saturday as unsettled weather moves across the region, although the greatest risk for widespread severe weather is expected to remain south of the state.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, portions of southern Indiana are included in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms through early Sunday morning.

SPC Day 1 Outlook

Forecasters say a series of weather disturbances tracking eastward will help spark thunderstorms across the Ohio Valley this afternoon and evening. While the highest concentration of severe storms is expected farther south across Kentucky and Tennessee, a few storms in southern Indiana could still become strong enough to produce isolated damaging wind gusts.

The primary concern for Indiana is localized wind damage from stronger thunderstorms. While the overall severe weather threat is lower than areas to the south, residents should remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions through the evening.

The Storm Prediction Center expects the risk to diminish overnight as the storms move east.

Hoosiers are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings if severe thunderstorms develop in their area.
