Three people dead following vehicle crash on I-96 in Michigan

MICHIGAN — Three people were killed in a wrong-way crash early Friday on Interstate 96 in Michigan.

According to deputies, the crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-96 in Wright Township when a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes collided head-on with another vehicle.

Authorities said the wrong-way driver, a 24-year-old Clyde man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the second vehicle, a 53-year-old Muskegon woman and a 50-year-old Muskegon man, also died as a result of the crash.

Following the collision, the eastbound lanes of I-96 just west of Exit 23 were closed as emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
