NORTH CAROLINA — Parts of North Carolina could see isolated severe thunderstorms Friday as the remnants of a tropical system move across the Carolinas, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

The greatest severe weather threat is expected across eastern and coastal North Carolina, where a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms is in effect.

Forecasters said enhanced low-level winds associated with the remnant circulation could produce damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado, especially during the morning hours near the coast and along a pseudo warm front.

Heavy rain, frequent lightning and gusty winds are also expected with thunderstorms across portions of the state. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, a few storms could become strong enough to cause localized wind damage.

Residents, particularly in eastern North Carolina, are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and remain alert for severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings as conditions change throughout the day.
