Marginal Risk of severe storms forecast for parts of South Carolina Friday

SOUTH CAROLINA — Parts of South Carolina could experience isolated severe thunderstorms Friday as the remnants of a tropical system move through the region, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

The greatest severe weather threat is expected across coastal South Carolina, where a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms is in effect.

SPC Day 2 Outlook

Forecasters said enhanced low-level winds associated with the remnant tropical circulation could support damaging wind gusts and the potential for a brief tornado, particularly during the morning hours near the coast and along a pseudo warm front.

Farther inland, thunderstorms are also possible, bringing heavy rain, frequent lightning and gusty winds. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could become strong enough to produce localized wind damage.

Residents, especially those along the South Carolina coast, are encouraged to stay weather-aware Friday and monitor forecasts for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings that may be issued.
