GEORGIA — Parts of Georgia could see isolated severe thunderstorms Friday, with damaging wind gusts posing the primary threat, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
Much of the state is included in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather as scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon in a warm, humid air mass.

Forecasters said the strongest storms may produce damaging downburst winds capable of bringing down trees and power lines. Frequent lightning and heavy rainfall are also expected with stronger storms, which could lead to localized flooding in some areas.
The severe weather threat extends across much of the Gulf Coast and Southeast as a stalled cold front interacts with very moist air. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated in Georgia, a few storms could become strong enough to produce isolated damaging wind gusts.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to seek shelter if severe thunderstorm warnings are issued Friday afternoon or evening.
