Alabama DOT employee dead following vehicle crash

ALABAMA — A 48-year-old Alabama Department of Transportation employee was killed and another worker injured in a two-vehicle crash in Bullock County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:55 a.m. May 28 on Alabama 51 near the 78-mile marker, about seven miles west of Hurtsboro.

ALEA identified the victim as Amad R. Jackson, of Montgomery. Authorities said Jackson was riding as a passenger on a trailer being used for roadway maintenance. The trailer was being pulled by a 2024 Ford F-250 when it was struck by a 2005 Mack CV713 dump truck.

Jackson was thrown from the trailer during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the F-250, Gary Battle, 46, of Uniontown, who is also an ALDOT employee, was injured and transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. His current condition has not been released.

According to ALEA, the driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the crash. No additional information was immediately available.
