MICHIGAN — A 46-year-old Mt. Morris Township man was killed and a 17-year-old Flushing resident was injured in a crash on Interstate 75 Tuesday night, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. on northbound I-75 between Maple Avenue and Bristol Road.
Investigators said the Mt. Morris Township man’s truck was experiencing a possible mechanical issue before the collision. According to the Flint Township Police Department, witnesses reported the vehicle’s lights appeared dim and that it was traveling at an unusually slow speed.
Police said a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old from Flushing then struck the rear of the truck.
The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
Northbound I-75 was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash.
Investigators believe a vehicle malfunction and the lack of seatbelt use were contributing factors in the fatal crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
