
VIRGINIA — A fatal crash shut down all northbound lanes of Richmond Highway near the Chesterfield County line on Tuesday, according to Richmond police.
The crash was reported Tuesday morning, and authorities said the closure was expected to remain in place for several hours while investigators worked at the scene.
Richmond Police urged motorists to avoid the area and use northbound Interstate 95 as an alternate route. Southbound traffic on Richmond Highway remained open.
Details about the crash, including the number of vehicles involved and the identity of the person who died, were not immediately released.
In a social media update issued around 11 a.m., police said all northbound lanes of Richmond Highway were closed and warned drivers to expect significant delays in the area.
Officials have not announced when the roadway will reopen, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and avoid the area until the closure is lifted.
