
OHIO — Federal and state authorities are investigating a plane crash that occurred over the weekend at Youngstown Elser Airport in Mahoning County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 12:25 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators said a single-engine airplane had taxied onto the runway and was preparing for takeoff when it suddenly veered to the left and left the runway. The aircraft then struck a metal light box before coming to rest in a nearby field.
The pilot, identified as a 70-year-old man from Youngstown, was not injured in the crash. Three additional occupants were aboard the aircraft and also escaped injury.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the incident. No further information has been released.
