
ALABAMA — The Tuscaloosa Police Department and the FBI Birmingham Field Office announced the results of a seven-week operation aimed at reducing violent crime and apprehending wanted offenders.
According to authorities, officers conducted 239 traffic stops during the operation and arrested 172 people.
Investigators also confiscated 22 illegal firearms and seized more than $15,000 in cash. Police said two of the firearm cases involved Glock switches, devices that can convert semiautomatic handguns into machine guns.
The operation was a joint effort between the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the FBI Birmingham Field Office.
“The FBI collaborates with law enforcement partners to crush violent crime and defend the homeland. Partnerships with our local law enforcement partners are key to removing violent offenders and keeping our streets safer. This operation is a reflection of our deep commitment and unwavering dedication to creating a safer community for everyone,” said David R. Fitzgibbons, special agent in charge of FBI Birmingham.
Authorities said the initiative focused on addressing violent crime, locating wanted offenders and improving public safety throughout the Tuscaloosa area.
