SOUTH CAROLINA — A motorcyclist died early Sunday morning following a pursuit involving the South Carolina Highway Patrol in the Conway area, according to the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a fatal motorcycle crash at approximately 2:10 a.m. Sunday on Highway 548 near Reevis Way in Conway.
Authorities said a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper initially observed a motorcyclist traveling north on Highway 501 at a high rate of speed and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The rider did not stop, leading to a pursuit along Highway 501 toward downtown Conway.
According to investigators, the motorcyclist later turned onto Highway 548 and ran off the roadway into a ditch.
The rider suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have not released the identity of the motorcyclist pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation by the appropriate authorities.
