Florida resident dead following vehicle crash on I-10 in Alabama

ALABAMA — A Florida man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Baldwin County late Saturday night, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Troopers said Robert D. Cates, 39, of Freeport, Florida, was driving a 2012 Nissan Titan at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle left the roadway near the 64-mile marker on Interstate 10.

Authorities said the truck struck several trees and overturned about 11 miles east of Robertsdale.

Cates was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
