
NEW JERSEY — Much of New Jersey remains under a severe thunderstorm watch Saturday evening as strong storms move across the region with the potential to produce damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 281 remains in effect until 10 p.m. for numerous counties across northern, central and southern New Jersey.
Counties included in the watch are Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.
Communities within the watch area include Atlantic City, Camden, Cherry Hill, Toms River, Trenton, Freehold, New Brunswick, Edison, Flemington, Morristown, Newton, Somerville, Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Cape May, Millville and Mount Holly.
Forecasters warn that thunderstorms moving through the state may produce damaging wind gusts capable of bringing down trees and power lines. Large hail, dangerous lightning and torrential rainfall leading to localized flooding are also possible.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions closely and be prepared to seek shelter if severe thunderstorm warnings are issued for their area.
The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday as storms continue moving across New Jersey.
