One person dead following shooting incident in Illinois

ILLINOIS — A 16-year-old boy died after being shot early Saturday in Champaign, and police are investigating the case as a homicide.

According to the Champaign Police Department, officers were dispatched at 12:06 a.m. to the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive following reports of a shooting with injuries.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers and members of the Champaign Fire Department provided emergency medical care before the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire, and officers located evidence indicating that several rounds had been fired.

Investigators also reported property damage in the immediate area. Officers continued canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and reviewing potential surveillance footage that could assist in the investigation.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
