OHIO — A 43-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening after crashing head-on into a pickup truck while fleeing law enforcement, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. on North Market Street near East Butler Street in Loudonville.
Authorities said Jerad Lane Shaw, of Mount Vernon, was being pursued by an Ashland County Sheriff’s Office deputy for multiple traffic violations when he ran a red light at East Main Street and continued northbound.
Troopers said Shaw’s vehicle, a dark green 2000 Saturn Ion, crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck head-on.
The Saturn then continued forward, colliding with a white Lexus sedan.
Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 71-year-old driver of the Dodge Ram was uninjured, while the 66-year-old driver of the Lexus sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Officials said Shaw was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors. The Ashland Highway Patrol Post is investigating the incident.
