
OHIO — A Cleveland woman was killed late Thursday night after her SUV collided with a work truck on Interstate 71 in Middleburg Heights, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at approximately 11:27 p.m. on I-71 southbound near Bagley Road.
Troopers said 31-year-old Christina Rivera of Cleveland was driving a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class SUV southbound when it struck a 2017 International work truck owned by Oglesby Construction of Norwalk.
According to investigators, the work truck was stopped in the far-right lane to protect a road painting crew working in the area. The truck’s flashing yellow warning lights were activated at the time of the crash.
Rivera was wearing a seat belt and was transported by Brook Park Fire and EMS to Southwest General Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the work truck was also wearing a seat belt and was taken to Southwest General Hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers said the roadway approaching the crash scene was flat and straight, and no members of the road crew were injured.
I-71 southbound was closed for approximately two hours while emergency crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by Brook Park Fire and EMS, the Middleburg Heights Police Department, Kufner Towing and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
