OHIO — A man is dead after drowning at Caskeys Campground in Baughman Township, according to park operators.
Campground officials said the incident happened Wednesday night. Details surrounding the drowning have not been released, but the campground stated in a Facebook post that the victim “went under without warning.” The man’s name has not yet been made public.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the man who passed away from this horrible incident,” the campground’s owner wrote in the post.
Campground officials also confirmed that no lifeguard was on duty at the time of the incident. According to the campground, Ohio law did not require a lifeguard to be present. Officials said several bystanders attempted to help the man before emergency responders arrived.
“I am grateful for the many people who immediately stepped in to help. I can say with confidence we have the best people camping here,” the campground’s Facebook post stated. “I am also incredibly grateful to all the emergency personnel. They did an amazing job.”
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted for additional information regarding the incident.
