FLORIDA — Two men were arrested after a traffic stop in Crestview led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, cash and a handgun equipped with an illegal machine-gun conversion device, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said the stop occurred near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and South Lloyd Street. Investigators said deputies attempted to stop a gray Chevrolet Equinox when two passengers exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Authorities said the driver then sped away from the scene.
Deputies pursued the two passengers and took both into custody after a brief chase.
According to investigators, deputies recovered a backpack containing approximately 39 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl, about $2,400 in cash, and a Glock 17 handgun fitted with a “switch” and a 30-round magazine. A switch is a device that can convert a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic firearm.
Authorities identified the suspects as Nassir Wright and Christopher Rogers.
Wright was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of a machine gun, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence. Rogers was charged with resisting an officer without violence.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
