One person arrested following drug bust in Illinois

ILLINOIS — A Zeigler man was arrested on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop while riding a bicycle late Wednesday night, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Kyle Bacon said a deputy stopped 34-year-old Luke Neeley at about 11:54 p.m. June 3 while he was riding a bicycle along South Main Street near Linden Street in Zeigler.

Authorities said a K-9 officer and handler were called to assist at the scene. The sheriff’s office reported that the K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal substances around the bicycle and a bag.

A subsequent search allegedly uncovered drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine and firearm ammunition.

Neeley was arrested and transported to the Franklin County Jail.

He is charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony; unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 3 felony; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.

The case remains under investigation.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
