TENNESSEE — A Madisonville man was arrested on a DUI charge after a head-on collision involving a police patrol vehicle Friday night, according to the Madisonville Police Department.
Police said Sgt. Travis Gunter was conducting routine patrol just before 10 p.m. on U.S. Highway 411 near Patterson Street when a vehicle failed to yield and entered the center median directly in front of his patrol car.
The resulting collision caused significant damage to both vehicles, but authorities said Sgt. Gunter was able to brake and make a last-second maneuver before impact. He was not injured.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to investigate the crash and identified the other driver as Lynn Martin, 63, of Madisonville. Troopers said Martin was also not injured.
According to investigators, a trooper found an open container of alcohol inside Martin’s vehicle and determined he was under the influence.
Martin was arrested by the Tennessee Highway Patrol on a charge of driving under the influence and transported to the Monroe County Jail.
No injuries were reported, and the crash remains under investigation.
