
NORTH CAROLINA — A driver remains on the run after leading Reidsville police on a chase that ended in a crash Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
According to the Reidsville Police Department, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle around 3:30 p.m. after seeing it speeding and traveling left of center.
Police said the driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
During the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle crashed into another vehicle near North Carolina Highway 14 and Wilson Road. Authorities said the driver then abandoned the vehicle and ran into a wooded area near Wolf Creek.
Officers with the Reidsville Police Department, K9 units and deputies from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
North Carolina Highway 14 near Wilson Road was temporarily closed while emergency crews searched the area and directed traffic. Authorities also issued a CodeRED alert to nearby residents warning of law enforcement activity. The roadway has since reopened.
Police said no injuries were reported by the occupants of the vehicle that was struck in the crash.
Investigators are working to identify the suspect and expect to pursue multiple traffic and criminal charges related to the incident.
