OHIO — Shaker Heights City School District is mourning the loss of a fourth-grade teacher at Lomond Elementary School.
District officials announced Monday that Najee Hardaway, a fourth-grade teacher at Lomond Elementary School, has died.
According to the district, Hardaway was a graduate of Shaker Heights schools and was regarded as a leader among staff members.
Superintendent Dr. David Glasner said in a message to the community that Hardaway was a cherished member of both the district and the Lomond school community.
“Our hearts are with his family during this difficult time,” the district said.
Because of the loss, Lomond Elementary School will be closed Tuesday for students. All other buildings in the district will remain open.
“We are putting supports in place to help students and staff grieve, process and care for one another,” Glasner said. “Counseling and mental health professionals will be available to support those in need.”
The district also shared grief support resources for families and caregivers.
“There are no perfect words for moments like this, and my heart is incredibly heavy. This loss is being felt deeply throughout our community,” Glasner said. “As we grieve together, may we continue to care for and support one another. May Mr. Hardaway’s memory and legacy in Shaker Heights be for a blessing.”
