TEXAS — Authorities are searching for a missing 10-year-old boy who reportedly disappeared in the water near Surfside Beach in Brazoria County on Sunday evening.
According to Surfside Beach Police Chief Philip Hester, a youth football team was gathered near Ocean Avenue around 5:30 p.m. when the child was playing in the water and was caught in a riptide.
Officials said the boy went underwater and did not resurface.
The U.S. Coast Guard was called to assist in the search effort, with support from Air Station Houston and Air Station Corpus Christi.
Texas EquuSearch is also assisting in the ongoing search.
