FLORIDA — Two Miami residents were arrested after a traffic stop in Key Largo led deputies to drugs and a DUI investigation, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said deputies stopped a Ram pickup truck pulling a trailer around 9:03 p.m. May 22 near Mile Marker 100 on U.S. 1 because the trailer’s lights were not working.
Investigators identified the driver as 25-year-old Nicholas Sean Pichardo and the passenger as 29-year-old Claudia Yero, both of Miami.
According to deputies, Pichardo’s driver’s license had expired and he appeared intoxicated during the stop.
A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a THC vape pen and substances that field-tested positive for cocaine, MDMA and fentanyl.
Both suspects were taken to jail.
Pichardo faces multiple charges, including DUI with unlawful blood alcohol level, DUI causing property damage or injury, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, smuggling contraband and four counts of drug possession.
Yero was charged with possession of cocaine and two counts of drug possession, authorities said.
