LOUISIANA — A 71-year-old Westlake man was killed Thursday evening in a five-vehicle crash on La. 27 in Cameron Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers identified the victim as Danny Hillebrandt.
Investigators said the crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. near the La. 384 intersection as traffic slowed because of congestion in the area.
According to state police, Hillebrandt was driving a Ford Ranger northbound when a Ford F-750 failed to slow down and rear-ended his vehicle. The impact triggered a chain-reaction crash involving two Ford F-150 pickup trucks and a Chrysler 300.
Hillebrandt, who was properly restrained, died at the scene, troopers said.
The driver of the F-750 and occupants of the other vehicles were taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Authorities said the driver of the Chrysler was not hurt.
State police said impairment is not suspected, though routine toxicology samples were collected as part of the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
