ALABAMA — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman died while in custody at the county jail Sunday afternoon.

Jail staff responded to a medical call around 3:49 p.m. on May 17 involving 39-year-old Tyneika Dragg.

Authorities said Dragg was found unconscious and not breathing inside her cell.

The sheriff’s office said resuscitation efforts were started by jail staff and continued after HEMSI and the Huntsville Fire Department arrived at the jail. Dragg was later pronounced dead.

Officials said Dragg had been booked into the jail Saturday by Huntsville police on a third-degree domestic violence charge.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of death will be determined following an autopsy by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

The investigation remains ongoing.
