TENNESSEE — A pedestrian was struck by a truck Friday night on Interstate 840 in Rutherford County after getting out of his vehicle following a separate crash, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Officials said the incident happened around 9 p.m. Friday, May 15, along I-840 West near mile marker 59.
According to a preliminary THP report, a man was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the interstate before exiting his vehicle and crossing the median into the eastbound lanes. Authorities said he was then struck by a 1999 GMC Sierra.
After hitting the pedestrian, the driver of the GMC — identified as a 16-year-old Tennessee boy — swerved onto the right shoulder and crashed into a rock embankment.
The teenage driver was injured in the crash and was wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to officials. No charges are being filed against him.
Authorities have not released the condition of the pedestrian, and no additional information was immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
