FLORIDA — A Texas family is asking for the public’s help finding an 18-year-old man with autism who disappeared after traveling to Miami.
According to Miami Beach Police, Jonathan Andrew Torres was last seen Saturday near the Costa Norte Boutique Hotel on Harding Avenue in Miami Beach.
Family members said Torres left work in Austin, Texas, last Wednesday and never returned home. Relatives later learned he had gone to the airport and boarded a flight to Miami.
His grandmother said Torres is high-functioning, outgoing and had become fascinated with Miami. The family said they became concerned after he stopped responding to calls and text messages.
Surveillance video reportedly showed Torres outside the Miami Beach hotel where he had been staying after arriving in South Florida early Thursday morning.
Relatives said all contact with him stopped Saturday, and there has been no activity on his bank accounts. His phone last pinged in downtown Miami that same day.
Torres is described as 5-foot-6, weighing between 130 and 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
