ILLINOIS — A Springfield man was arrested on multiple weapons and drug charges after police said he fled from officers and threw a loaded firearm during a foot chase early May 10.
According to Springfield Police, an officer observed a man crossing South Grand near 1 a.m. without using a crosswalk. The officer stopped to advise the man, identified as 38-year-old Andrew Boone, about laws regarding crossing the roadway.
Police said Boone then ran from the officer and allegedly threw a black firearm onto the ground while fleeing. The officer recovered the weapon and continued the chase until another officer joined in and Boone was taken into custody.
Authorities said Boone was wanted on a McLean County warrant for charges including dangerous drugs and meth possession.
Investigators said the firearm Boone discarded was loaded and had a defaced serial number. Police also said Boone did not possess a valid FOID card or concealed carry license.
Boone was arrested on charges including meth delivery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, defacing firearm identification markings, possession of a firearm without a FOID card and armed habitual criminal.
