FLORIDA — A 60-year-old woman was arrested Sunday following a crash on Interstate 75 in Weston that left two people dead and several others injured, including a 1-year-old child, authorities said.
According to online jail records, Cira Quinones Lewis was charged with driving with a suspended license and failing to return a driver’s license or register with an insurance company. Authorities said she is also being held on an immigration detainer.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened late Sunday morning in the westbound lanes of I-75 near Indian Trace Road in Broward County.
Investigators said a white Dodge sedan, a blue minivan and a motorcycle were involved in the collision.
Two people died from their injuries, according to authorities. Three others were hurt, including a 1-year-old girl who was hospitalized in critical condition. All injured victims were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
The crash shut down all westbound lanes of I-75 for several hours while troopers investigated the scene. The highway reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
As of Monday morning, Quinones Lewis remained in custody at the Broward County Main Jail.
Investigators have not said what caused the crash, and it remains unclear which driver was at fault. The investigation is ongoing.
