TENNESSEE — Three teenagers were arrested early Sunday after allegedly taking part in street racing and dangerous driving stunts on Interstate 24 in southeast Nashville, according to police.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said officers responded to reports of a group of more than 10 vehicles shutting down Interstate 24 East while drivers performed donuts and burnouts in the roadway.
Police said the group left the area before officers arrived, but the vehicles were later tracked by the department’s aviation unit near Old Hickory Boulevard.
According to investigators, a white Infiniti reached speeds of more than 115 mph on I-24 near Bell Road while being monitored by the helicopter unit. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near Haywood Lane, but police said the driver continued fleeing at a high rate of speed.
The Infiniti eventually stopped at a home on Packard Drive, where three occupants ran from the vehicle before being apprehended by officers, police said.
Authorities identified the driver as a 16-year-old boy who was charged in Juvenile Court with drag racing, inciting a riot, reckless driving and reckless endangerment, among other charges.
Two passengers, girls ages 15 and 13, were also charged with evading arrest and violating juvenile curfew laws, according to police.
No injuries were reported.
