OHIO — A wrong-way crash on Interstate 71 South near Historic Crew Stadium left one person dead and three others injured early Friday morning, according to Columbus police.
Authorities say the crash occurred just after midnight when a KIA Forte, driven by Ariana Williams, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-71 near 17th Avenue.
The KIA first sideswiped a Ford Fusion before colliding head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The impact caused the Jeep to spin off the west side of the highway, while the Ford came to rest in the middle lane.
Moments later, a Volvo semitruck struck the KIA, ejecting Williams from her vehicle.
Williams was pronounced dead at 12:14 a.m.
Three adults in the Jeep were hospitalized in stable condition, while the drivers of the Ford and the semitruck were treated at the scene.
The crash forced the closure of I-71 for several miles, including as far north as the Interstate 270 interchange. Crews reopened all lanes just after 5 a.m.
Police have not determined the cause of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
